The Central Connecticut Snow Snakes started with just 15 members and immediately joined the Connecticut Ski Council (CSC) in November of 1986. For a number of years the club stayed relatively small (about 35-50) but was very active in the CSC taking part in the On Snow Carnival, Monday night racing and the annual Snow Ball. The club had a Council Queen and 2 runners up in the first few years. Members of the club serve on CSC committees and even have had a Council Secretary.
The club participated in many of the former USRSA trips to western and Canadian resorts but has also been quite successful in running their own club trips. The club offers weekend and extended weekend bus trips to Northeast mountains and organizes extended trips out West.
Along with trips, Snow Snakes can take advantage of the bulk ticket program offered early in the fall and Council Awareness days throughout the ski season where members enjoy great savings on lift tickets.
Membership of the Snow Snakes grows every year, with about 1,200 members currently. We have lots of families with and without children but still maintain a group of singles. We cater to all skiers and snowboarders.
We encourage our members to participate in the club. Suggested participation can be as involved as you’d like to make it. We are always looking for new officers of the club but if that’s not your thing there are other ways to help. Arranging club meetings such as getting a speaker to present a topic, assisting with the newsletter and website, organizing refreshments, volunteering on a Snow Ball committee, or participating in the CSC are just a few ways to contribute to the success of the club. If you would like to volunteer, feel free to Contact us.
In previous years, Snow Snakes were very active in the off-season when we had fewer members. We did yearly hikes, bike trips, camping and whitewater rafting as well as some golf outings (regular and the mini variety). With the large membership we now have, many members are interested in resurrecting some of these activities. If you are interested in organizing or proposing activity ideas, feel free to Contact us.
