CCSS CLUB NEWS

President's Message

by Lois Krause

Well, there’s a nip in the air lately, and it won’t be long before the snow flies!  I for one can’t wait!  I hope all had a great Summer, and everyone is getting geared up for a wonderful Ski/Ride season.  There is a lot to cover, so I will dispense with many of the pleasantries to get to the “meat” of the information.  First, however, I would like to thank Pam, Jim and Alex Cropley for the use of their summer home on Coventry Lake for our club picnic this year.  If you were not there, you missed one of the most perfect days, with great food and great company!

Our first meeting of the season is on Sept. 20 at 7:30 PM at the South Windsor Community Center (see other area of newsletter for address and directions).  We will be serving some sort of dinner fare, taking dues, selling Entertainment books ($30 for Hartford., CT, and $25 for Springfield, MA), deposits for Winter Park, CO, Jay Peak, and Sugarloaf trips, and Pre-Buy Discount Tickets for assorted mountains.

In case you did not get a specialized order form in your newsletter, the prices are as follows: Okemo Adult (19-64) $44.50; Okemo Young Adult/Sr. (13-18/65-69) $42; Okemo Jr./Super Sr. (7-12/70+) $31; Sugarbush Adult - $41; Ascutney Adult - $33; Ascutney Jr. $28; Bromley Adult/Teen (13 + up) $34; Bromley Jr. (6-12) $26; Mt. Snow Adult $42; Stratton Adult $44; Killington and Pico have not determined their prices as yet, but we do not expect them to be more than $46 and $36 respectively for Adult tickets.  They did not offer junior discounts last year, so we do not expect them to start offering them this year.

As far as credits go, if you turned in tickets last season for credit, you will receive some credit for each ticket returned, but if you returned Sugarbush, Mt. Snow, or Stratton tickets, neither of them credited all of the returns.  Each person will receive $12 per ticket returned for Sugarbush, $22 per ticket returned for Mt. Snow, and $27.45 per ticket returned for Stratton (all other mountains returned full price from last year).  Remember, these are the credits that the mountains gave back, and have nothing to do with the Council or our Ski Club.  All pre-buy tickets must be purchased, with money in, by Oct. 1, so we can log the purchase in the database and get the order into the Council by the deadline, or there will be no tickets for you!!!  You must purchase a new ticket from the mountain that you received credit for, or your credit will be lost.

Now for our Logo contest – We had some difficulty choosing a winner from our entries (One from Holly Fisher, two from Linda Starr, and two from Sarah Saunders).  We did make a selection, but when we went to the store to have the logo made, we found out that what we wanted would not lend itself well to embroidered reproduction.  We showed the other entries to the owner of the shop, and he made some suggestions.  As it turned out, we combined significant elements from Holly Fisher’s entry and one of Linda Starr’s entries.  Marie Carparelli’s niece put it together for us to give to the owner of the store. Therefore, we will be awarding two full prizes to Holly Fisher and Linda Starr, and a special mention award of any article of choice, with the new logo, to Sarah Saunders.  When we made the selection, we did not know the identities of the entrants.

We are still looking for some people to step up and help lighten the load of work to run the club. We are now 661 strong, so there is a lot to do – please come help.  If you have a few friends that are members consider doing a job as a team – it is fun, and you can socialize as you do it.

Please come to the September meeting and discuss possible ways to serve (note the “open” positions), and hear about some more interesting information!

Think Snow!!!
